Yamaha FGDP-50 Finger Drum Pad

In most respects I loved this thing. So much fun, so adjustable and huge sound especially from an external speaker. Genius layout too. I had a great time switching it on and just letting rip. It is certainly unique in that respect. But! It has a few fatal flaws. First, even this '50' model is a drudge to programme and it really, really needs an app with a well thought out UI to make settings more accessible and quicker to find and adjust than they are on the tiny screen with it's nested settings. Second, the pads are not sensitive enough to pick up light finger rolls and touches so it has a distinct on-or-off effect when played. It works very well for a robust sale of playing but it's not great for dynamics. The killer for me though was that no matter what YouTube video or Reddit post or official tutorial or downloaded patch I tried - even the product manual - it seems in the end there is no way to reliably connect this to a DAW and record the sound of it being played. I thought when I bought it that the plug and play aspect would extend to plugging it into a computer and bashing away on record - basically like an electric guitar. But it just doesn't work that way at all (and suffered from huge latency whatever I tried). And believe me I tried. It's a lot of fun to play, but as it turns out, it's not for me.
