The Spark sound in a floorboard format
In the Spark series, Positive Grid has managed to bring together guitar amps, digital effects, and deep app control into a single ecosystem. The Spark Pedal takes the same idea behind the Spark amps, but fits it into a small floorboard pedal. 33 amp models and 43 effects form the system's sonic foundation, with the Spark app adding further sounds, ToneCloud access, and AI-powered sound creation on top of all that. Notably, and practically, the Spark Pedal handles in a much more traditional way than a purely app-based system: Five multi-functional knobs and three familiar footswitches take care of the main jobs right on the unit. Added to that are six preset slots for a user's favourite sounds, a built-in 60-second looper, and a battery that's good for up to seven hours. Bluetooth, a headphone output, USB-C, MIDI, and the option to hook up an expression pedal mean the Spark Pedal can slot into all sorts of different setups, too.

Sounds straight from the pedal
Given the compact dimensions and the sheer amount going on underneath, the Spark Pedal's control panel itself comes across as refreshingly clear. At the centre sits the Amp Type knob, which handles amp selection and volume; one press switches between amp and effects functions. The other four knobs – Drive/Gain, Mod/Bass, Delay/Mid and Revb/Treble – do double duty, controlling either amp or effects parameters depending on the mode. The three sturdy footswitches take care of presets and the looper. This means the pedal on its own is more than enough for a first round of sounds. Anyone wanting to go deeper can begin exploring the Spark app, using it to edit the various amps, effects, and presets. ToneCloud can load ready-made sounds from other users onto the pedal, while the Spark AI is capable of turning a written or spoken description of a tone into an actual sound.

Electric and acoustic
The Positive Grid Spark Pedal is likely to appeal above all to guitarists and bassists who need a wide range of sounds and want them in a compact format. Acoustic guitarists get something out of it too: Dedicated acoustic amp models provide an authentically unplugged character, while chorus and several reverb types, from studio to ambient, add extra space to the acoustic sound without ever making it feel electric. Anyone who enjoys experimenting with different amp characters and effects will have their hands full with the Spark app, without giving up hands-on control on the pedal itself. For rehearsal rooms and stages, the three footswitches and six preset slots are perhaps the most practical feature, and in the home studio, there's the added bonus of a fully-fledged USB audio interface.

A compact workstation for every occasion
For guitarists jamming at home, the Positive Grid Spark Pedal can be run straight into headphones, and Bluetooth connectivity brings backing tracks or other playback sources into the setup as well. For the home studio, it goes via USB-C straight into a computer or tablet, where the pedal can double as an audio interface. In the rehearsal room, the Spark can be paired with a guitar amp or plugged directly into active speakers or a PA. Six presets are often plenty for a live set, and the looper, with its 60 seconds of recording time, gives creative musicans even more options. And thanks to the integrated battery, the Spark Pedal can just as easily come along to the next outdoor session, without needing to pack up the whole rig to do it.
