Adaptable room acoustics

The HOFA Frame 2 Modules is a wall or ceiling mounting system designed to hold two HOFA Diffusor or Absorber panels – including Eco versions – allowing the room's acoustic balance to be adapted as recording and listening requirements change. Diffusors fitted in the Frame scatter mid and upper-mid frequency reflections for a controlled, natural-sounding room, while Absorbers reduce reverberation time by absorbing mid and high frequencies for a drier, more direct sound. Together they allow instruments, voices, and loudspeakers to perform at their full sonic potential in any recording or listening environment.

Construction and ethics

The HOFA Frame is manufactured in Germany in close collaboration with Lebenshilfe, a workshop employing people with disabilities. Frames are constructed from 19mm solid beech – waxed in the natural finish, or finished with a solvent-free stain in the coloured versions. The HOFA Frame range is available in versions for either one or two acoustic modules, and in natural, black, brown, and cream white finishes. Wall-mounting hardware is supplied as standard, while an optional kit is available for ceiling installation. Optional fabric covers for the acoustic modules allow the system to integrate easily into different room designs.

Adjustable acoustics

The HOFA Frame's primary value is flexibility: The acoustic character of a room can be shifted between sessions by replacing Diffusor panels with Absorber panels, or vice versa, without removing the frame from the wall. Absorbers suit close, direct recording of voices and acoustic instruments where a controlled, dry sound is needed; Diffusors suit playback and mixing environments where a natural, lively room sound is preferred. The two-module Frame allows a Diffusor and Absorber to share the same frame, combining the benefits of diffusion and absorption in one installation. The system is primarily used in professional environments – recording studios, control rooms, vocal booths, concert halls, and music schools – though home studios and hi-fi listening rooms benefit equally from the flexibility it provides.

About HOFA

Founded in 1988 purely as a recording studio, the HOFA company today comprises five different business areas, making it one of the largest service providers in the field of audio and media production in the German-speaking world. HOFA-Studios are among the largest and most renowned recording studios in Germany, HOFA-Media manufactures CDs and DVDs with numerous optional services, HOFA-College offers state-certified audio engineering correspondence courses, HOFA-Plugins produces digital audio tools, and HOFA-Akustik develops and distributes elements for optimised room acoustics. The company, based in Karlsdorf between Heidelberg and Karlsruhe, is characterised by fair production conditions, sustainable management, and climate neutrality.

Developed in and for professional studios

The HOFA Frame was developed alongside the Diffusor and Absorber panels at one of Germany's largest recording studios, and the complete system has been used in numerous award-winning productions. Whether to use Diffusors, Absorbers, or a combination, and how many panels a room requires, depends on the room's geometry, dimensions, furnishings, and intended use. For spaces where significant investment has already been made in monitoring and recording equipment, room acoustics are a logical next consideration. The Frame makes it easy to fine-tune a room's acoustics over time by swapping Diffusor and Absorber panels as recording, mixing, and listening requirements evolve.

Ziemlich schwer
Mathias281 14.02.2013

Absolute Kaufempfehlung.
